The Synod Consultation Committee is composed of 12 members, each from one of the 10 conferences. The members serve for one 6-year term, elected by the synod assembly. The committee serves primarily in an advisory role to the office of the bishop and assists the bishop to investigate situations that are potentially matters of formal ecclesiastical discipline. The committee meets at the request of the office of the bishop.
