The Synod Nominating Committee is composed of 10 members, each representing one of the 10 conferences. The committee members are elected by the annual Synod Assembly. The committee members serve a 3 year term and may serve 2 consecutive terms. The nominees for the nominating committee are nominated by the synod council nomination committee and elected by the synod assembly.
The Synod Nominating Committee has the responsibility to contact individuals who are able and willing to be nominated and serve on the various synod committees, PLU Corporation Delegates and the Churchwide Assembly voting members.
The synod committees and other positions are:
- Synod Vice President 4 year term (eligible for 2 terms)
- Synod Secretary 4 year term (eligible for 2 terms)
- Synod Treasurer 4 year term (eligible for 2 terms)
- Synod Call Committee 3 year term (eligible for 2 terms)
- Synod Consultation Committee 6 year term (eligible for 1 term)
- Synod Council 3 year term (eligible for 2 terms)
- Synod Discipline Committee 6 year term (eligible for 1 term)
- Nominating Committee 3 year term (eligible for 2 terms)
- PLU Corporation Delegates 3 year term (eligible for 3 terms)
- Churchwide Assembly Voting Members 1 year term (eligible for 1 term)
The composition of the committees is:
- 60% lay
- 50% of the lay are female, 50% are male
- 40% clergy
- 10% of the membership should be a person of color or English is their 2nd language
- Representation from each of the 10 conferences or on a rotating basis
The Churchwide Assembly voting members can only serve once in 10 years. The positions are on a conference rotating basis of clergy, lay (male/female) and youth.
